What is HSPnet?

The HSPnet electronic platform supports student placement coordination understanding that our students today are our colleagues tomorrow.

The Health Sciences Placement Network (HSPnet) is Canada’s longest-running and most comprehensive non-profit health sciences student placement system. It has enabled over 2.1 million successful placements since 2003

HSPnet is a secure electronic system. It improves the management of practice education activities for health science students across Canada. HSPnet is hosted by the Provincial Health Services Authority of British Columbia (PHSA).

Our primary users are individuals who either place or receive students from over 50 disciplines (e.g. nursing, rehabilitation, technologists, social work and more). People who receive students are typically receiving coordinators, program managers, unit managers, and educators in health service organizations. Other users include instructors, senior managers, and students.

“This platform is unique in that it’s created by the public sector. It’s the only one of its kind in Canada.”

- Ella Young, British Columbia Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA)

HSPnet streamlines placement coordination for health sciences

For example:
  • It removes resource-intensive, error-prone manual processing. This improves communication and information-sharing between users.
  • By bringing together multiple localized data sets, it improves placement processes across geographic areas.
  • It supports capacity building, preceptor recognition, prerequisite tracking, student orientation, and more.
  • Users can access data from HSPnet to track, report, and plan for capacity, to ensure that they address critical health human resources (HHR) shortages.
